A Piece of Cake Method to Connect Your HKMLC Smart Board - HKMLC Smart Board

It may seem complicated connecting your HKMLC Smart Board to a computer or other device, but once you know the steps, it’s actually a pretty smooth process. However, if you are setting up for a classroom or meeting-based presentation, then this article is here to help guide you through, step by step, on how to connect a smartboard.

How to Connect Your Smart Board?

Inspect the Cables and Connections

Inspect the Cables and Connections

Make sure that all the cables are plugged in before you start. Each smartboard comes with its own pairing type, which may include HDMI, VGA, USB, or wireless connections. Ensure the smart board is connected via the proper ports to your computer. Check it for loose cables, which could break the connection.

Attach the Smart Board to your PC or Device

Attach the Smart Board to your PC or Device

Now is the time to connect the smartboard to your computer or other device since the cables are set. If using HDMI or VGA, connect the cable into the respective ports of the smart board and computer. If you want to connect wirelessly, make sure both devices are on the same network, and follow instructions on your HKMLC Smart Board about wireless connection.

Power Up the Smart Board and Computer

After you make the physical connection, turn on your smart board and the computer. If everything is connected correctly, then you should see the computer screen displayed on the smart board. Be sure both devices are powered on, and that the smartboard is detecting the connection.

Configure Display Settings

After you turn on these devices, you may have to adjust the display settings. You will need to select the smart board as your main (or extended) display in the display settings on your computer. That way, the board functions as a mirror of or an extension to your computer’s screen. For wireless devices, make sure your HKMLC Smart Board is on the appropriate wireless input mode.

Calibrate Touchscreen (If Required)

Finally, once the display is configured, you may need to calibrate the touchscreen so that the touch inputs from a finger or stylus are accurately reflected on the smart board. The board’s menu settings let you access the calibration options. Calibration: This is what lets you accurately interact with presentations or software on the smart board.

What If Your Smart Board Does Not Connect?

Okay, well maybe not panic, but if your smartboard is not connecting to your computer or device, please do not panic! Here are some troubleshooting steps to try and guide you along the correct path.

Check the Input Source

Ensure that the appropriate input is selected for the type of smartboard you have. If you’re using HDMI, for example, the board needs to be in HDMI input mode. If the board is switched to another input (VGA, for example, or the board’s wireless), the board won’t detect the attached device.

Reboot Both Devices

A simple power cycle/reboot sometimes is all that it takes to get the connection going again. Reboot the smartboard as well as your computer, then test the connection again after reboot. This might resolve temporary problems on either of the devices.

Consult the Manual

If the above steps don’t work, consult your HKMLC Smart Board Setup Manual for more thorough troubleshooting. It will contain information on setting up correct smartboard device connections and resolving common connectivity issues.
